RBS is not a lifetime card. Public ABC information describes certification as valid for 3 years. Renew (recertify) before it expires so your portal status stays current for work.
How long RBS lasts
After you pass and your status shows Certified, count three years from that certification date unless ABC states otherwise. Check the date in your ABC RBS Portal account rather than guessing.
When to renew
Start before the expiry date. Waiting until after a busy weekend hire rush is a common way people miss the window. If your employer tracks certifications, ask them how much notice they need.
What renewal involves
Renewal is not a tiny "click to extend" for most people. Public guidance describes going through the process again: portal steps, ABC-approved training, and the ABC exam. Our how to get RBS guide covers the same flow.
If you need training again, request course access on the home page (about $10; we email payment details). Portal fees remain separate.
If your certification already expired
Check the portal for your current status and follow ABC's instructions for expired certifications. Your employer may also have a policy about working while expired. We cannot override ABC or employer rules.
Tips before you start again
- Confirm your portal login still works
- Update your email if you changed jobs
- Block time for training and the exam on the same week if your start date is soon
- Email [email protected] if you are renewing for several staff at once
